The Hydrotherapy Pool facility was designed from the very beginning to be as energy efficient and environmentally friendly as possible.
To us this is business common sense – why waste valuable heat energy!!
Where possible we capture and recycle heat back into the system and we make every effort not to lose any heat through the walls and roof.
The walls are built of specially designed polystyrene blocks and faced with brick slips on a foam backing so that almost no heat is lost.
Even the floor and the pool itself are specially insulated – there is over 75mm of insulation under the floor.
A fresh air source heat pump extracts “renewable” energy from the outside air and directly heats both the pool water and the pool room air.
Two additional heat pumps, which also incorporate water storage, help reduce any excess air temperature which is captured and used to heat the water for the showers that are on timed switches to reduce waste.
The inside walls and ceiling have been treated with BioSan – a special paint used in Hospitals leisure centres and schools. Biosan contains the unique Anti-Bacterial agent 'Bactron' which kills most types of Bacteria including Super bugs and the MRSA Bug. The paint’s effectiveness becomes reactivated every time it is washed down.
In order to reduce any chemical use in the pool water to a minimum we ask our hydrotherapy patients to have a FULL naked shower before entering the pool – this can reduce the need for chemical additives by up to 40%.
The pool water is sterilised using ultra violet light filters and the water is filtered through sand as part of its continuous circulation.
As you would expect we use a small amount of chlorine to help sterilise the water to achieve the very high level of cleanliness we wish to maintain in this pool.
Throughout the building energy efficient lights have been selected.
On the roof 16 solar photo voltaic panels capture light energy and feed this via an inverter directly back into the National Grid.
Even our scrap paper is cross-cut shredded and then composted. |
